Since launching in October 2017, we have successfully diverted 48 people from the Atlanta City Detention Center and 22 people from the Fulton County Jail.

In our first year:

  • Participants have reconnected with family members, started new jobs, moved into permanent housing, and resolved longstanding legal issues that had previously prevented them from achieving their goals.
  • The Atlanta Police Department has started tracking diversion referrals in weekly activity reports, and continues to dedicate a full-time officer to serve as the PAD Liaison – read his testimonial below.
  • PAD has worked alongside community organizations, service providers and local city and county governments to advocate for policies that keep people out of jail who need services and support.
